Role: visual & UX Design Lead

Led the design of the Activity section of the new Consumer PayPal app, which launched to 4.8 million customers in February 2016. Responsible for designing and overseeing the entire Activity app experience while working in partnership with stakeholders, product, design and engineering.

 
 

 
 
The app features a cleaner, more modern color scheme, iconography, fonts, and layout which makes it better resemble something a startup trying to compete with PayPal would build rather than something from an older and established payments company.

Redesigning the app

Activity, main screen

Improvements include:
enhanced filter capabilities, stronger visual hierarchy with usage of date groupings and removal of redundant details, and improved scannability and friendlier UI with merchant logos and customer photos.

 
 

TRANSACTION DETAILS

Improvements include:
a more global friendly design with stacked details suitable for lengthier languages, addition of relevant actions tailored for each transaction type, a payment breakdown, and a new content strategy that’s conversational instead of transactional.

The payment company announced...that, in just a few weeks since it introduced the redesigned PayPal app to 145 global markets, it has seen a 12 percent jump in the number of new users that have downloaded the app compared to the week before the launch.

Actions within transaction details

pay a money request

When receiving a money request from friends or family, customers can now pay them directly from their transaction details in just 2 clicks.

 
 

Transaction history

The new ‘See your history’ action in their transaction details allows customers to view their entire PayPal transaction history with a particular person, merchant, or bank.

 
 

Transfer to bank

When they receive money from friends or family, customers can now transfer it to their bank from their transaction details in just 2 clicks.

 
 

Contact seller

For questions or concerns regarding a transaction, customers can now contact the seller directly or view the seller’s website using actions within their transaction details.

TRANSACTION DETAILS MATRIX

Kicked off this project by documenting whether 135 components were present, optional, or not present for each of the 50+ transaction types used within PayPal. This proved to be an invaluable tool when meeting with leadership and stakeholders to determine feature prioritization.
