PayPal App Redesign, Activity
Role: Visual and UX Design Lead
Led the design of the Activity section of the new Consumer PayPal app, which launched to 4.8 million customers in February 2016. Responsible for designing and overseeing the entire Activity app experience while working in partnership with stakeholders, product, design and engineering.
Transaction Details Matrix
Documented roughly 50 of the most common transaction types in an Excel matrix, and their relationship with about 135 different components that can either be present, optional or unavailable in the transaction details for each type. This was an invaluable tool when meeting with product, engineering and stakeholders to determine which features were in-scope for our initial launch.
Before & After
Significant improvements include a simplified design, new merchant and customer avatars for increased scannability, enhanced filter capabilities, globally friendly design, ability to take actions on transactions, and a more robust transaction details.
Added ability to filter by money coming in vs. out, more discoverable date filter, reduced any unnecessary redundancy, and increased scannability and visual hierarchy with date groupings and added merchant logos and customer photos.
Optimized layout to be more globally friendly by stacking details, added ability to take action including contacting the seller, added essential transactional information such as payment breakdown, increased scannability with a streamlined and simplified design, and enriched the experience with friendly and less transactional language.
Added predetermined date ranges so users can quickly filter their Activity.
Additional Screens
Customers can now quickly click on a predetermined date range (such as last year or this month) to filter their Activity, or create a custom date range.
Customers can now directly pay a money request they received from a friend or family member through their transaction details. They can also decline a money request received, or cancel a money request they have sent.
Customers can now view their PayPal transaction history with a particular merchant, person or bank within their transaction details.
When a customer or merchant receives money, they can now quickly transfer it to their bank from their transaction details.
A customer can now contact the seller directly from their PayPal app or visit their website.
